The INSPIRE- Revolutionising Training in Welding Inspection for Hydrogen Pipelines consortium recently gathered in Larnaca, Cyprus, for its latest 𝗧𝗿𝗮𝗻𝘀𝗻𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗹 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝗷𝗲𝗰𝘁 𝗠𝗲𝗲𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴, kindly hosted by our industrial partner AC-Tech Cyprus.
This meeting was an important moment for the project, not only because it allowed partners to align on next steps, but also because it highlighted how far INSPIRE has already progressed.
Over the last stages of the project, we have moved step by step through a complete development journey:
🔹 Analysed training needs in hydrogen and identified good practices
🔹 Updated and modularised the European Welding Inspector (EWI) curriculum
🔹 Developed dedicated Competence Units focused on hydrogen applications and pipeline inspection
🔹 Created training resources including support guides, theoretical materials, case studies and AR-based learning exercises
🔹 Tested these resources through pilot activities in Spain, Finland and Greece
During the meeting in Larnaca, partners reviewed pilot feedback together, identified areas requiring adjustment and agreed on a concrete action plan to further strengthen the project outcomes.
Over the coming months, the INSPIRE project will increasingly move from development into dissemination and stakeholder engagement. Project results will be presented and discussed with the wider academic, vocational education and industrial communities through participation in major European and international events related to welding, inspection, hydrogen technologies and advanced manufacturing.
Upcoming dissemination activities include:
🔹 European Conference on Non-Destructive Testing, Verona, Italy | 15 - 19 June 2026: Get to Know
🔹 33rd International Welding Conference – MAHEG, Budapest, Hungary | 18 - 19 June 2026: Get to Know
🔹 IIW 79th Annual Assembly & International Conference on Welding and Joining, Salzburg, Austria | 12 - 17 July 2026: Get to Know
Through these events, hashtag#INSPIREProject aims to strengthen dialogue with experts, training providers, certification bodies and industry representatives, while promoting innovative approaches to competence development for welding inspection in hydrogen infrastructure applications.
After the summer, more news will follow — including updates on our multiplier events and opportunities to engage with INSPIRE results directly. Stay Tuned!!
